2006 State Tourism Awards

Rawnsley Park Station's luxury eco-villa development was named best New Tourism Development at the 2006 South Australian Tourism Awards, held on Saturday, November 11, at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

Rawnsley Park owner, Tony Smith, said he and wife Julieanne were delighted to be recognised at the Awards, particularly against such strong competition including the new Adelaide Airport.

Offering panoramic views of Wilpena Pound and the surrounding ranges, the one and two bedroom villas are built of rendered straw bales, and include a host of environmental design features, including overhanging eaves and verandahs, recycled timber, passive heating and cooling and double-glazed windows.

Rawnsley Park Station also received a bronze medal in the Sustainable Tourism category and was a finalist in the Eco/Wilderness Experience category at The Weekend Australian Travel and Tourism Awards, presented on the Gold Coast on Friday, November 10.
