Things you must do at Rawnsley Park Station

23 03 2020

Offering a range of accommodation, amazing scenery, abundant native wildlife and a full range of activities and facilities, there really is no reason to leave Rawnsley Park Station.  Make sure you experience at least some of these during your stay.

Daybreak Loop Walk – everyone can join in on this easy three-hour, three-kilometre walk through the foothills of Rawnsley Bluff.  Your experienced local guide will tell you about the unique native flora and wildlife of the area, and you’ll discover how the ancient seabed floor has been uplifted and eroded to create this amazing landscape.  The walk ends with a hearty bush breakfast.

Sunset on the Chace – a sunset at Rawnsley Park is like nothing else, so make sure you book onto one of these special two-hour tours.  They depart late afternoon, and include a 40-minute drive to the top of the stunning Chace Range.  Once here, we’ll open the sparkling wine and serve the gourmet canapes, all while watching the sun set over the ranges.

Lamb in the Woolshed Restaurant – Rawnsley Park Station is a working sheep station and our Woolshed Restaurant is one of the few places where you can sample our lamb.  The Lamb Tasting Platter features lamb cooked in a variety of ways – think lamb sausages with pesto, lamb forequarter chops with chimichurri and slow-braised lamb leg.  Look out, too, for our regular Lamb Tasting Dinners hosted by the station manager.

Take to the skies – the best way to see Wilpena Pound and the surrounding ranges is from the sky, so why not take one of our 30-minute scenic flights over the Pound with our resident charter service,  Chinta Air.  Longer scenic flights and day tours are also available. We also offer scenic helicopter flights ranging from 10 minutes to 30 minutes, and a heli-ride version of Sunset on the Chace.

Sleep under the stars – this unforgettable experience sees you and a friend flown by helicopter to the Chace Range, where our staff set-up your swags for the night and a two-course camp-oven dinner is prepared.  We then leave you to sleep under the star-filled Outback sky, returning just after your bush breakfast for the return flight back to Rawnsley Park Station.
